The road testing will serve as a foundation for China’s development of smart transportation and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication standards. It will collect vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication data in real time from multiple test scenarios, including measures of active safety, traffic management and information services.

The first phase of this programme was launched in 2015 and involved around 200 vehicles form the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), one of China’s largest domestic automotive manufacturers. The aim is to have 1000 intelligent and connected vehicles during this year and 5000 vehicles by the end of 2019 with prospects to double this number by 2020.

“Developing intelligent transportation systems is vital for building sustainable cities” Li Zheng, NXP China.
