Parking set to change in autonomous world

Long and short term parking needs will decrease as autonomous vehicles move continuously between the various places they are needed, according to CBS Insights.

Autonomous vehicles will run in a software where a driver can probably control it via a smartphone, tablet or any other connected device. This means that while a person is at work, the person can send the car to pick up laundry or to go pick up tonight’s dinner. While doing tasks, the autonomous car will not be parked the whole day, waiting for a person to come back to it after work.

According to McKinsey, autonomous vehicles’ fleets could save 61 billion square feet on unnecessary parking space in the US alone. This land can be sold and transformed in green spaces or in any other space that will create value in the autonomous world.
