Engineers and designers, who has the final say in building cars?

When it comes to creating a car, a question is raised: do designers and engineers collide all the time?

Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar, says no, engineers and designers do not collide all the time, according to an article on The Globe And Mail. When designing you have to work within dimension, though sometimes you can try to negotiate some features like the shape of a new model but, for example, legal and safety are not negotiable.

Alfonso Albaisa, executive design director at Infiniti, would argue that theScreen Shot 2016-04-01 at 9.38.56 amir engineers are also the designers.

At BMW, Peter Burgner, who is well known to Car And Us.com and is head of BMW AppCenter USA, agrees that design and technology do not collide. For BMW they merge in a nice way and they call it functional design. Peter also says that at BMW all departments make decisions together and the biggest challenge is identifying the technology that makes sense.

Are you one of the drivers on Car And Us.com that would be there to look at the designs of cars and to share your own or are you a member who uses Car And Us.com to remind you when your NCT/Mot and tax are due?
